Kibera Slum, Nairobi. Our first screening experience has left us with a lot to think about.

This is a photo stitch panorama of a section of the slum - maybe 160 degrees in total. On the right you can see remnants of an installation by the French artist JR. We had a film at 5Point called Wrinkles in the City that featured some of his work in LA.

Anyway, at this vantage you could see Kibera stretching out for as far as the eye can see. Estimated population - between 170,000 and 1 million people depending on the stats used. We heard that in reality it’s somewhere between 200k and 300k but it’s all but impossible to get an accurate account.

It would take a lifetime to understand the complexities of Kibera but only a few minutes to understand that this is a powerful place filled with people that should not live in conditions like this.
